 Day 2 - Boston

„First of all the most important: the sun had been shining the whole day.
Today the first plan was the „Freedom Trail“. We started off loosely and made it up to the end. My audio backing had also worked out perfectly.
Afterwards we visited the birth house, where we were already expected by park ranger Jason Atsales.
After a short break and changing clothes we went to the Union Oyster House at 7 pm, where Peter Engels had booked the famous Kennedy table. And what can I say – it worked out. Even the service lady I had talked to from Germany already was there and took us to the right table.
Unfortunately our date Stephen Kennedy Smith was not able to come. But maybe we will meet him tomorrow in Hyannis or next week in New York.
From the organisation’s point of view I still have a clean slate and I hope it will stay that way. The time frame has also been working out so far.“

During the research about the famous Freedom Trail, Peter Engels noted, that there was a huge number of apps available in English language, but none in German. So Peter Engels just made his own little audio tour. He first collected all the required information about the sights from the internet and then spoke a little text about it. Then he also recorded it on the mobile of his friend and so we could enjoy the Freedom Trail with German descriptions. Click on the audio icon upper left corner and get some impression of it.

In the afternoon we had an appointment at the birthplace of John F. Kennedy. We had already had contact with the executive park ranger Jason Atsales and his team since my first visit in 2013. Back then he had given me the chance to get a private tour out of season. Now again we could move around freely and it was a great experience again.
At night we were able to reap the fruit of our labor, our good and tedious planning. We wanted to have dinner at the Union Oyster House, America’s oldest continuosly operating operating restaurant (since 1826). John F. Kennedy and other members of his family had been guests there regularly. He even had a usual spot, today’s „Kennedy booth“. To get a respective booking is really difficult but you don’t get a specific table. It took some personal calls ahead that finally resulted in success. We originally had a date with Stephen Edward Kennedy Smith Jr., the son of the last still living sister of the president. We had been in contact for some months already. He is always commuting between New York and Boston and unfortunately had to call off on a short term.
